Depression. It’s no laughing matter. Or is it? Why are so many of our best loved comedians depressed? I trance in and out exploring this tragi-hilarious topic with award-winning cartoonist, depressed humorist and best-selling author, the irrepressible Larry Feign: creator of the iconic Lily Wongcomic strip published in the South China Morning Post. Larry was the first cartoonist to have a full-page spread in Time Magazine, worked in animationfor Walt Disney Studiosand is the international best-selling authorof 15 comic books and children’s book series The Fart Brothers, which he sensibly writes under the pen name M.D. Whalen because he doesn’t want to be too closely associated with flatulence.
It’s unlikely to find favor in Westminster, as my figure is based on maths, but here’s my idea for the side of a bus in the next UK Gen Election: Abolish All MPs: Give 1M A Week to NHS! (650 MPs x GBP80,000 annual MP salary = 52M p/a or 1M a week). Spurious line of argument: proroguing parliament NOT to deliver No Deal Brexit but to give 1M a week to the NHS.
The Mental Ideas Podcast is a series of podcasts in which my shady second cousin, twice removed, Sadie Kaye explores innovative approaches to tackling mental health with an eclectic mix of local and international guests, many of whom are from the worlds of entertainment, film, the arts & charity. The podcast launches as a weekly strand of RTHK Radio 3‘s 123 Showin 2020. Gentleman juggler and showman Mat Ricardo presents a number of intriguing slots!
In 2017 I began producing & ‘co-presenting’ (as myself and Sadie Kaye) a one-hour comedy podcast, Fake News. The mockumentary sees me embark on an unlikely adventure in the USA with US President Donald Trump and the t*t he’s referred to as “Mr. Brexit”, Nigel Farage. The podcast will air on ‘Brexit Day’. (March 29, 2018, May 31, 2018, April 1, 2019, Oct 31, 2019? ???) Stay tuned for teasers some time before the next millennium!!!
Miss Adventure is a completely made up fictional character. She was born in 2012, when New York indie Summerhill TV produced an improvised skit with rock band Motorhead at Madison Square Garden. The episode aired on Funny or Die, where it (briefly) became FoD’s ‘Highest Rated Video – All Time‘. For the past few years, ‘Miss Adventure’ has shambled her way through regular comedy broadcasts on RTHK Radio 3. Any resemblance to Sadie Kaye is purely in your head, although they did meet once at a riot in Repulse Bay.
