Home Kong Kitchen in the SCMP!
You may have caught me looking slightly guilty a few weeks ago in the SCMP‘s Post Magazine chatting to the hilarious Kylie Knott about my tasty little Home Kong Kitchen initiative: Baking A Difference (geddit?) for Hong Kong’s homeless! Thanks so much to the SCMP for this nice little plug of HKK and Mental Ideas, which is currently broadcasting on RTHK.
BLOWN AWAY by the response to this article, solidarity and generosity of Hongkongers mobilizing support to help the most vulnerable! This project has never failed to rejuvenate my spirits and restore my faith in humanity, bringing me together with so many inspiring individuals and organizations that epitomize the spirit of Hong Kong!
HUGE thanks to bighearted artist Juliana Kung for designing Home Kong Kitchen‘s emblem! It has everything I love: character, beauty and flying bagels! (Actually, I think they’re meant to be orbs, but I saw bagels. I see bagels everywhere now. They’re plastered on every billboard, graffitied on every work of art. Mona Lisa’s smile? Bagels. Munch’s Scream? Bagels. Birth of Venus? Bagels. Map of the MTR? Bagels. The New Fragrance by Christian Dior? Bagels. Leonardo’s Last Supper? What else?? Bagels.)
I’ve discovered every homemade bagel weighs the same as a brick and that lugging vast quantities of bricks bagels around has really paid off in terms of honing my hump! The Mad Creative Genius of Reuben M Tuck
Can’t believe I’m writing this… RIP Reuben M Tuck! Truly one of the funniest, whip smart, joyous, down to earth (while never quite of this earth) and loveliest people on the planet. The undisputed star of my 2015 Bipolar Express doc and someone I had known since I was 18 (and he led me astray – or it might have been the other way round). He died peacefully at home in Thailand but was only 58. Absolutely heartbroken for his wife Normandy, his family and all those who loved him. FU 2020. RIP Rueb

Thanks Hong Kong Buzz for your plug of my Mental Ideas Podcast, plus recent film festival excitements for a film I co-produced with Contro Vento Films, Transference: A Bipolar Love Story, which was supposed to have its world premiere at the New York Socially Relevant Film Festival in March, the film’s selections for the Arizona International Film Festival and Buenos Aires International Film Festival, mention of my 2019 NIFA Award and plans to travel to Wisconsin to catch up with the indomitable Dan Davies (an upcoming podcast guest) for NIFA 2020 in May. Which sounds a lot more exciting that it actually is. In reality, the podcast is the only item of news mentioned in the article that hasn’t been postponed. But give it time…
